15 May

Due to depart Seattle later that afternoon for the train journey down to Portland the morning was spent in the Seattle Art Museum followed by a quick lunch in the very first Starbucks (The one that started it all).

The museum was a varied mixture of different art gathered from various places around the world, mostly with a strong African and Native American mixture. The woven ‘magic eye’ like art piece in the Native American section stood out for its strange hypnotic effect on the brain.

The large chain mail outfit shown in one of the pictures was also very unique as it was made completely out of dog tags that were bound together to form the structure.

We departed for Portland and took a pleasant trip down on the train just seeing how far the Puget Sound extended down until we hit country side. On first impressions Portland has no really tall buildings but loads of bridges which cross the Willamette River. The people have a really laid back and country approach to life and so far it is very rare to see people walking around in suites and ties.
