With a late morning’s breakfast/lunch at Loris Dinner and a tasty burger later we proceeded down Stockton Street to the Apple Store. I got my first opportunity to play with the new IPad something that won’t hit the UK or Australia for another month or so. I then decided to pick up an IPod touch that would give me the ability to sample the best of the iphone’s application and games but without the need to sign a phone contract for the next 24 months.
It was then time to ride on the famous cable cars of San Francisco. From union square we caught a cable car that would take all the way to Fishermans wharf. The ride was certainly an experience which is really worth doing for anyone coming to San Francisco. However I do believe since the cars move at slow pace I would highly doubt many of the residents indeed use the cable cars.
Once at the wharf we decided to have the only Irish coffee you can have in San Francisco at the Buena Vista, a small bar made famous for grand cocktails. Setting off one of the steepest hills in the city up Hyde Street we head for the Crooked Street on Lombard Street, a strange twisting street that snakes down the hill. Interestingly Lombard Street is the start of highway 101 which proceeds all the way to Los Angeles.
Proceeding down Lombard Street we head up to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, a yellow stone tower that stands proud above the wharf area. Views from the tower were still good considering the rain we had that day. Climbing down all the stairs we found ourselves near to the City of Lights book store. A bookstore that keeps its link to the beat generation by stocking a large portion of beat generation literature and poetry.
For dinner that night we head to an Italian restaurant that served garlic with everything and I mean everything, starting with garlic spread for our bread and then meat loaf and lasagne both of which laced with garlic.
